Dragonfly from Ted Andrew's "Animal-Speak"

The Power of Light
Dragonflies remind us that we are light and can
reflect the light in powerful ways if we choose to do so.
"Let there be light" is the divine prompting to use the creative imagination as a force within your life. This is a part of what dragonflies and damselflies teach us. Life is never quite the way it appears, but it is always filled with light and color. Dragonfly can help you to see through your illusions and thus allow your own light to shine forth. Dragonfly brings  the brightness of transformation
and the wonder of colorful new vision."
Dragonfly, from Sams & Carson's "Medicine Cards"

Dragonfly: Illusion

"Dragonfly medicine is of the dreamtime and the illusionary
facade we accept as physical reality. The iridescence of Dragonfly's wings reminds us of colors not found in our everyday experience. Dragonfly's shifting of color,
energy, form, and movement explodes into the mind
of the observer, bringing vague memories of a time
or place where magic reigned. ...Dragonfly is the essence of the winds of change, the messages of wisdom and enlightenment, and the communications
from the elemental world."
Flutter wings I hear
Woke me up from my dream
Spins in my head like a melody.
Pull me into a land of fantasy
Pull me in again and let go of me

There I fall endlessly
No one to pull me back up
Nor do I keep in faith for anyone to

A new light then came
That descends like the Angels,
Singing tunes of melody's
Soft as a whisper
Taking away the fear.
An Essence surrounds me
Soothe me and protect me
And we are now a whole as one
Then is when I realized
That I'm on a dragonfly

I fly with it while everything
Fades into the night
Dissolved by it,
leaving away a tune
An unchained melody
I found myself in a garden of dragonflies
Their wings flutter in the night
That shine and give out a light,
A lovely light of hope.

Flutter wings I hear once more
And I know it is hope
Hope for me to go on

The Battle of Willow Pond
by  Jemma Lilley

Two little sparrows
Were sitting on a log
Talking to a dragonfly
Up popped a big green frog

The dragonfly said " little sparrows"
"Can you help me please?"
"How to find my way back home"
"I'm lost in all these trees"
The big green frog,
he laughed and laughed
"You can't leave just yet"
"You really look delicious"
"Make a tasty treat I'll bet"

The dragonfly, he wasn't scared
He had a secret weapon
The frog, he tried to lap him up
But something ghastly happened
The sparrows watched in fascination
Dragonfly, he lunged
Stinging tail thrust 'tween the eyes
Into the pond, the frog plunged

The little sparrows bid farewell
And flew off in the sky
Do not underestimate
The little dragonfly

Remember me
When this you see
A Dragonfly
Perched on a tree
Let this be my sign to you
Remember me in all you do.
